Electronic waste recycling market to grow by a third by 2017

A new report has estimated that the global electronic waste recycling marketing will grow by around a third by 2017, This will mean a figure of around $1.7bn. In the report by global consultants Frost and Sullivan, the WEEE market was estimated at more than $1.4bn in 2011 with the growth of 4% each year for the next 5 years. One of the main causes of this increase was stated to be around government initiatives such as WEEE EU Directives to increase people and companies to recycle their WEEE waste. The term ‘e-waste’ covers almost every type of discarded electrical and electronic equipment that has already entered, or could eventually enter, the general refuse system. It includes a variety of appliances and devices, both large and small, domestic and commercial, including those that are destined for resale, reuse, disposal, salvage and recycling. WEEE Legislation – What’s Changed?

The WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive was put in place by the EU to regulate the disposal of WEEE goods. It provides guidelines as to the suggested amount of electrical products that can be recycled by each member state, but it leaves each state free to decide just how much more than the minimum amount they want to recycle. James Hughes is competing in the charity St Patrick’s day race at cheltenham festival. He’s in it to win it!

Taking time out from his busy day job as logistics manager at Universal Recycling Company, James is one of 12 jockeys entered in the St Patrick’s Derby, an annual charity race in aid of Cancer Research UK. The one mile and five furlongs race, taken on the Flat, will take place at 5.15pm as the seventh race on the day’s card, and is sure not to disappoint! Over the race’s history, over £400,000 has been raised for the charity, and James himself is aiming to add an impressive £5,000 to this year’s total.
